We are on the ground in Uganda. We just finished a light lunch and everyone has pretty well crashed and a long night/day of flying. It was a good flight from London to Nairobi. The seats were more comfortable and Debbie was not ill. We got into Kenya this morning and had a short layover. The plane was a 737 instead of a 777. You learn to appreciate the extra space.
Kenya did not look that much different from Kansas (at least the airport). If you just looked without listening, you would be hard pressed to tell any difference. All the different languages gave it away. The airport was much more crowded than any of the previous ones. Not so much in number of people but more in proximity from one person to another.
Customs in Uganda was very uneventful. All the luggage made it with no bags being lost so God was watching out for us.
We were met at the airport by Ben (along with FLOWERS for his wife), Idah, Renata, Bosco, Jerome and Fred. We were introduced to Ugandan traffic, saw a boda boda (small scooter) first hand and arrived at the compound. We were warmly greeted by the rest of the GFR staff (Kaitlyn, Michelle, Kharm and Daphine). We had a light lunch and everyone unpacked and crashed (for the most part).
Idah will do orientation later today and then we take off for one of the villages tomorrow morning.
I will try and have some pictures posted tomorrow.
Welcome to Africa.
